In 2008, The Dying Animal, from which “The Chaos of Eros” is excerpted, was made into a movie, Elegy, starring Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz. This is the trailer:
Philip Roth was one of the most awarded American writers of his generation. His books have received the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle award, and the PEN/Faulkner Award. He received a Pulitzer Prize for his 1997 novel, American Pastoral. The Human Stain (2000) was awarded the United Kingdom’s W.H. Smith Literary Award for the best book of the year.
